Department of Human Services Multicultural Service Officer Sreta Mrkic is based in the Northern Sydney region and is committed to using his skills to help others.
The son of economic migrants from Serbia, he works with people from a variety of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

“Building trust doesn’t happen overnight, it happens over an extended period of time,” Sreta said.
“Attending local events and being actively involved in the community are great ways for me to meet key people and build solid relationships.”
Once he has established good rapport with a community group, Sreta can better understand the ‘nuts and bolts’ of issues in the community, and put information sessions together to address those issues.
“When you spend a lot of time with particular groups, it’s really lovely to see steady changes over weeks, months and years,” he said.
“The greatest reward is when people ring to thank me for my help. It’s what motivates me to come to work every day.”
