Taskforce Integrity was part of a multi-agency investigation which dismantled a large welfare fraud scheme in Melbourne.

Police charged six people in relation to fraudulent government payments to Melbourne family day care providers.

The joint operation between Australian Federal Police, Department of Human Services, Department of Education and Training and the Victorian Department of Education and Training uncovered up to $15.8 million of fraudulent government payments to Melbourne family day care providers.

Taskforce Integrity Assistant Commissioner Ray Johnson said the result sends a strong message to those seeking to profit by exploiting the welfare system.

“The community should take comfort that Taskforce Integrity is working with its partners to detect, deter and disrupt non-compliance and suspected welfare fraud,” Assistant Commissioner Johnson said.
