Braving the elements to serve outback Australia

Providing services to the whole of Australia can be tricky but the Department of Human Services’ Remote Servicing Team does an outstanding job, travelling across our vast land to support customers in remote and regional communities.

Central Australian Remote Servicing Team Leader, Steve Pachulicz had planned to live in Alice Springs for three years. More than 25 years on, he and his wife are still living in Alice Springs – both for the people and the beauty of the area.

“The work I do involves direct communication with 42 communities spread across a million square kilometres,” Steve said

“I’ve met so many incredible people in the communities I’ve visited, which is part of the reason I’ve stayed on as long as have.

“There are some interesting obstacles the team faces on a daily basis, from rough weather to rugged terrain, but it’s a very rewarding job.”
