Staff and services from Moonee Ponds Medicare will relocate to the Newmarket Service Centre at 482-490 Racecourse Road, Flemington on Monday 1 June 2015.
Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said the move will create a one-stop shop, offering the full range of Medicare and Centrelink services in one location.
“Nearly 180 Australian communities have taken advantage of combined Medicare and Centrelink face-to-face services,” Mr Jongen said.
“This approach provides convenient, easy-to-access, coordinated services from a single point for customers in the local community.
“Currently, more than 91 per cent of all GP claims are lodged at the point of service, and over the past few years the number of people visiting the Moonee Ponds Medicare has halved.
“Claiming at their doctor’s surgery is the preferred way of claiming for a growing number of people because it saves them a separate visit to their local Service Centre.
“While most customers now prefer to claim on the spot at their doctor’s surgery, staff will be available at the Newmarket Service Centre to provide face-to-face services to those who need more personal or intensive support.”
The Newmarket one-stop shop will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
