South-west Sydney residents will soon have access to more government services when the Department of Human Services brings together Medicare and Centrelink services under the same roof in Campsie.
All staff from the Medicare Service Centre in Roselands will relocate to the Campsie Service Centre on Anglo Road to create a one-stop shop from Monday 13 July 2015.
Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said Campsie joins more than 190 communities around Australia with access to the department’s one-stop shops.
“This approach provides convenient, easy-to-access, coordinated services under one roof for customers in the local community,” Mr Jongen said.
“Moving Medicare services to Campsie reflects the trend of delivering more government services from a single point, while also acknowledging significant changes in the way customers are choosing to claim their Medicare rebate these days.
“There has been a marked decline in the number of people visiting our service centres largely due to 2 factors: the move away from cash rebates for Medicare services in 2012, and the growing trend of doctors offering patients the ability to claim their rebate electronically at the surgery.
“Since November 2012, the number of people visiting the Roselands Service Centre has reduced by almost 50%.
“The best way to claim your Medicare rebate is directly at the doctor’s surgery, and nationally, more than 95% of all Medicare claims are now lodged at the point of service.
“Local residents are also encouraged to check out the range of digital services available through myGov and the Department of Human Services’ Express Plus apps, which allow people to do their routine government business where and when it suits them.
“However, staff will always be available to provide face-to-face services to people who require more intensive or personalised support.”
The Campsie Service Centre is located at 19-21 Anglo Road and is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
