New Medicare scam email

There is a new email scam pretending to be from Medicare, telling people they are owed a rebate of over $200.

The email is very similar to the SMS message that scammers were sending earlier this week, encouraging people to click a link to a website and share their personal details.

If you have received an email like this, please do not click on the link or respond to the sender. You should report it to scamwatch.gov.au and delete the message.

If you have provided personal details, you should contact our Scams and Identity Theft Helpdesk on 1800 941 126.

Remember – the Department of Human Services does not include hyperlinks in our emails or text messages. We would not offer you money without sending you an official letter first.

The Department of Human Services is working closely with the Australian Cyber Security Centre to have the malicious website removed as quickly as possible.
