Elizabeth and Port Adelaide residents will be able to do more government business in one place when Centrelink and Medicare services come together to form two Department of Human Services one-stop shops.
Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said more than 165 communities around the country have already benefitted from having government services delivered side-by-side.
“From Monday 23 February, Centrelink and Medicare services will be offered under the one roof in Elizabeth at 10 Langford Drive, followed a week later by Port Adelaide from Monday 2 March at 72 Lipson Street,” Mr Jongen said.
“All staff and services from the current Medicare Service Centres in the Elizabeth Shopping Centre and West Lakes Shopping Centre will move into the existing Centrelink Service Centres in Elizabeth and Port Adelaide respectively.
“In South Australia, demand for face-to-face services has decreased, as customers increasingly use the range of digital claiming options and online services available.
“In the last financial year, more than 95 per cent of all Medicare claimed services in this state were lodged electronically.
“The best way to claim your Medicare rebate is at your doctor’s, but I also encourage customers to check out the range of digital services available through myGov and the Express Plus mobile apps.
“These alternative service options mean many customers do not need to call us or visit a service centre to complete their regular Medicare business.
“However, staff at the Elizabeth and Port Adelaide Service Centres will continue to provide face-to-face services to those who require more personalised or intensive support.”
The Elizabeth and Port Adelaide Service Centres will open Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 4.30pm
