Justin’s role is to give people information to help them understand their financial situation.

“The Financial Information Service is a free, impartial service to help people understand their financial situation and helps them make educated decisions about their finances,” Justin said.

“I like to call us the ‘teachers’ of money. While we’re not financial advisors, we can provide useful information.”

FIS officers discuss a range of topics at regular seminars across Australia. If you can’t make it to a seminar, you can call the department to make an appointment with a FIS officer.

“The Seniors Update Facebook and Twitter accounts are a great way for us to stay in touch with seniors,” Justin said.

“We listen to what seniors want to hear about and answer their questions on these accounts and in podcasts.”

The following podcast includes these topics:

  • Downsizing/selling the family home
  • Wills and Powers of Attorney, and
  • Volunteering and paid work.
